Chapter 2: Aftermath
In the chaos of Fenrir’s passing the planet’s surface was reformed. The oceans boiled and the land was shattered, lifeforms died in their billions. Almost all plant life was destroyed, the jungles and forests flattened or burned. Ancient ecosystems that had thrived for millions of years were decimated. It was a mass extinction event.
However, new life was seeded in the wastelands, a strange otherworldly life, and it was not long before new ecologies began to thrive, ecologies born from and accelerated by the residual enregies of the dark comet. We call this remnant energy Spore because it covered the earth in a great dispersal and the fungi love it!
All across our ravaged planet the surviving mycelial networks began to thrive, nurtured and mutated by the Spore. The mycelium erupted in extensive blooms that now cover the equatorial zones in vast but delicate forests of fungal growth. These dense mycelial regions are known as the Oddscapes, where the Spore has cracked and thinned the membrane of reality and allowed oddities and mutations to seep through.
Spore has become the life blood of our new cultures, it gives us energy and fuel and raw materials for technology, construction and fabrication. It feeds the mushrooms and the insects and the algae that we eat. It is plentiful and versatile and miraculous, it is a gift born from the devastation and darkness of Fenrir’s passing. With it we are rebuilding, we are growing.
